photo_4[1]Bishops Tachbrook C of E Primary School this week hosted over thirty volunteers from Jaguar Land Rover’s UK-based Overseas Operations team.

The group worked with school representatives on projects in the school grounds, building a fence, painting sheds and benches, planting a lavender hedge, installing a drainage system and building the foundations for a pond dipping platform, at times using a Land Rover Defender to move soil and materials around the site.

The volunteers were keen to give back to the community as part of a team building day and chose to use their time and energy in helping Bishops Tachbrook.

Andy Brettell, Head Teacher – Bishops Tachbrook School, said: “The work done today by the Jaguar Land Rover team has transformed parts of our playground and will have an impact not just on our current pupils, but on pupils at this school for years to come.”

We wanted to reinforce this at a local level by giving back to our community. This project has been a great success for all involved and we thank the school for providing this opportunity.”

In the UK, Jaguar Land Rover employees spend up to 16 hours of work time on approved team or individual community volunteering projects per year. Many team projects involve physical improvements such as redecoration of community centres, creating sensory gardens or allotments, all of which improve facilities for the local community.

As well as helping the local community and strengthening Jaguar Land Rover’s reputation as a responsible business, group projects offer personal development opportunities including the development of leadership and project management skills.

Jaguar Land Rover has a sector-leading global Corporate Social Responsibility programme to deliver opportunities for 12 million people worldwide by 2020. In the first year of the activation (2013/14), 1.5 million people benefitted from education and clean water opportunities through NGOs such as the Red Cross and Climate Care.

The company’s ‘Responsible Business Strategy’ to 2020 aims to use less resources and create zero waste as well as reducing its dependency on fossil fuels. Challenging 2020 targets include a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions and water use.
