After winning the Mother and Baby Gold Award for Best Pushchair late last year, The Birmingham Gazette was keen to test out the City Mini GT, in our series of parenting features across 2014.
The most surprising thing about taking the City Mini GT out of its box was the lightness of it. There’s no huge bulky frame or overbearing canopy, in fact it couldn’t be easier to set up, and set off.
First you simply unpack the stroller and set the wheels aside. By simply pulling the Auto-lock lever while pushing the handle up and away from the lower body the stroller wonderfully clicks into place.
Once the stroller is upright you can see a red safety strap which snaps to the frame under the fold mechanism before use.
It’s already looking ready to roll and it’s easy to see that this would fit any child from a young infant through to 15KG. The GT is suitable from birth and offers a near-flat recline which can be adjusted as soon as your child is ready to sit up and view the world.
To install the front wheel this couldn’t be more straightforward – just lay the stroller back so the handle is resting on the floor, then slide the axel into the wheel end until it clicks. Gently tug on the wheel just to make sure it’s locked into place.
There’s a great feature here where you can set the wheel to swivel for manoeuvrability or to straight for long distance strolling.
The fantastic thing about the City Mini GT is the smoothness of the ride. The pushchair is very manoeuvrable thanks to Forever Air wheels which offer fantastic suspension across a variety of tougher terrains. It’s stylish too, with fantastic looks and a real convenience factor with its ever so easy to fold up design that can fit in the smallest of car boots.
The Canopy is also a breeze to attach. With the Canopy peg sliding straight into the top hole of the universal mounting bracket, and the bottom hotel to attach Baby Jogger’s unique range of accessories this stroller really does have it all.
The Brake is yet another remarkable innovation by the brand, it’s not down below where you can’t see it, but you’ll find it just to the right of where you’re holding the steering bar. Simply pull the brake lever up until it clicks into place or to release pinch the gray tabs and pull them towards you and push the lever down until it’s parallel with the frame.
Next up is the safety harness with ample flexibility and different options for adjustment as your baby grows. If you have special harness requirements, there are special D rings provided on the waist harness to allow this, providing they conform to BS EN 13210:2004.
The reclining seat is yet another innovation that’s convenient to use while on the move. All you have to do is pinch the clamp behind the seat, and slide it to the desired recline.
There are so many wow features with the City Mini GT stroller, whether it’s the stunning design, or easy to fold down frame, or the smoothness of the stroller while on the move its easy to see why it’s an award winner.
Whatever the weather, the City Mini GT offers exceptional protection from the elements with a range of accessories available to purchase separately including a ventilated wind/raincover and a snuggly footmuff which is available in a variety of coordinating colours.
The City Mini GT offers total flexibility for new parents. A carrycot can be purchased separately together with Maxi Cosi car seat adapters so baby can be easily transported to the car or home without disturbing that all-important slumber!
