Philpotts outperform the competition for business lunches on the move

In 1986, a small enterprise launched with the sole aim of becoming the nations number 1 sandwich retailer for modern businesses. It was to be named Philpotts and the original shop which was founded in Chester still stands

The Birmingham Gazette thought it was high time to sample one of the legendary lunches on the go and met deputy manager Lorraine Hall who was happy to show us around the Colmore Circus shop floor.

Philpotts are the leading independent sandwich chain in the UK, with 23 shops across the UK. It's obvious from the tightly knit team and immaculate counter displays that the business pride themselves on only using the freshest and highest quality ingredients available, and all of their soups,
porridges and sandwich mixes are made fresh each morning.

Birmingham is home to four Philpotts stores, located at Great Charles Street, Bennetts Hill, Colmore Circus and Edgbaston.

Local businesses can benefit from a special menu offering a wide selection of breakfast items, sandwich platters, savouries and fruit and muffin platters.

Individuals can create their perfect handmade bespoke sandwich or salad and accompany them with desserts, cakes and biscuits. I went for the daily specials - a roast chicken on a freshly baked baguette followed by a tasty chocolate mousse and a signature Philpotts Pork Pie.  They are now doing noodles which are a delicious alternative to the more traditional sandwiches and salads.

In April 2011 Philpotts launched its fully transactional click & collect website, where customers can order their bespoke lunch online and collect from their local shop at a time to suit them.

September 2011 also marked the introduction of the lunchtime offer - buy any ready to go £3.50 sandwich, wrap, baguette or pasta salad and choose from a bag of Tyrrells crisps or a piece of fruit and a canned drink or bottle of water for free.
