ANDREW COMBS + PAUL CAUTHEN, GLEE CLUB, BIRMINGHAM 4th May 2017

Andrew Combs Glee guitar pic 1Opening the show was Paul Cauthen who gave delivered a 40-minute set of awesome power and passion.

“Hello, y’all doin’ alright?” drawled Texan Cauthen, sporting a Johnny Cash T-shirt. Echoes of Elvis, Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash, passion and honesty are Cauthen’s tools. Watch out for Cauthen, he will be back.

Dressed in a smart black suit, red shirt and bootlace tie Texan singer-songwriter Andrew Combs was backed by a band of electric guitar, bass and drums.

Opening with Rose Colored Blues, then the “tree-hugging song” Dirty Rain followed in a 15-song set including eight tracks from his latest album, Canyon Of My Mind.

The show was faultless, with perhaps the standout track being Lauralee and Combs’ voice reminiscent of Don McLean.

This was a performance of well-crafted songs performed brilliantly. The sound person at the Glee Club deserves a special mention as it too was perfect.
